Hi Guys, Great start to application that can be so big in the baskteball coaching world.
A couple of suggestions to impove this appliacation would be to have the option instead of X & O’s you could use the number positions 1 to 5.

Also is there a way to add the 3 point line in?
Is there a way to show a defence screen?

Keep up the great work. Matt

    • DoubleTake 03/08/2012 at 1:54 pm #

Thanks for the feedback Matt. These are good suggestions. I’ll add it my list, but can’t commit to when at this time.

Only way to show a screen is to draw it when the play is playing using the marker on the Play View. But, that is not included in the recording. I’ll think about ways to make it something you can add.

You knocked it out of the Park with this app, 5 stars. Just finished leaving comments on BB Apple Store Site, “Ringette Rocks” 2/25/2012.

Free Play Lines in offensive and defensive zones, Free Play dots would be nice touches. Possible to get a half rink? Also is it possible to copy a Setup multiple times for a basis to record various iterations of plays?

    Thx,
    Jay

    • DoubleTake 02/25/2012 at 4:50 pm #

Thanks Jay! Appreciate the 5 stars!

Not sure what you mean by the zones and dots. If you reply with a pic noting them, I’d be glad to add them. Half rink is not a problem.

Saving setups is a great idea! I’ll add it to our list too.

    Hi there,

First of all I love the new Play Book App. I think you can go far with this application……my sport is Ice Hockey and I have allot of great ideas to help you guys with this project. Please contact me as I think a few of my ideas will be universal which will be huge for this app. Also obviously without a offline option to use the board it renders it useless for most of us coach’s. I personally am having a problem with the start up where it doesn’t show me an option to work offline ? When wi-fi is shut off or not available it does say work offline but then the Take Plays Offline button and Load Offline Plays is greyed out ? HELP ! !

    Sincerely,
    Dave

    • DoubleTake 02/23/2012 at 8:18 pm #

Dave, here is how the offline access works:

      1) While connected to internet, tap the Take Offline button. This stores your plays for offline use later.
      2) When offline, tap Load Offline Plays.

You must be connected initially to take them offline. From then on, your current plays will be available offline.

Thanks for your ideas. Please post them as a comment.

yes being to hit a clear button to just clear the red lines you draw from a main formation you may have saved

  5. justin 01/25/2012 at 3:30 am #

thanks for the fix it works now. love being able to take the plays offline. could you add a clear button for when you want to draw on a standard formation. currently you have to hit the back button to clear the board then re select the board you have setup.

    • DoubleTake 01/25/2012 at 12:48 pm #

Do you mean clearing the red marker drawings on the Play view? If so, that shouldn’t be a problem to add.

Good news! Version 1.0.6 was approved by Blackberry today. They confirmed that it fixed the startup issue some experienced with 1.0.3. Look for the update to show up today or tomorrow!

1.0.6 also includes new features, including offline plays and the ability to remove players and balls during setup. See release notes above.

Sorry for those of you Blackberry Playbook version users that experienced problems with 1.0.3 . My apologies.

Love the app, but find that the x and o can be a little large compared to the field. Would also like to see half field screens for all sports

    • DoubleTake 01/23/2012 at 9:30 pm #

Thanks for the feedback. The size of the X/O is sized for the size of the finger so that it can be touched and moved around. Unfortunately, the playing area is limited to the available screen size, so it does make them a little too large.

We do have some half fields. Which sport are you needing half?

      • Tim 01/23/2012 at 10:50 pm #

Half field for soccer would allow me to demonstrate corner kicks, free kicks and defensive positioning in more detail

        • DoubleTake 01/24/2012 at 2:35 am #

Sounds good Tim. I’ll add Soccer half pitch as soon as I can.

    • DoubleTake 01/21/2012 at 4:40 pm #

Justin, you should see the football icon show up now.

We did re-submit a 1.0.4 release today with the hope that re-packaging it and re-uploading it fixes the freeze.

In the meantime, an alternative workaround is to use your browser on the tablet and go to http://www.playbook4web.com . Take it full screen. This is if you want to be able to show the plays to your team and version 1.0.3 is freezing on you.

Hope this web workaround helps if you need the plays this weekend.

  10. DoubleTake 01/21/2012 at 10:05 am #

Some users are reporting that the latest 1.0.3 release is freezing up. We’ve contacted Blackberry support. This release was tested and approved by Blackberry prior to release, so at this time we don’t know what is causing the issue. Unfortunately, Blackberry’s turnaround on approving new versions is a few days and they don’t have an option to backup to a prior release. And I don’t believe they provide weekend support. So, it may be Tuesday or Wed before there is a solution.

If you haven’t yet updated to 1.0.3, please hold off for a few days.

We apologize and will keep you posted here.

http://www.playbook4web.com/ has been upgraded to match the new Play Book design. Access your plays on the web when you’re on your laptop or PC at work. :)

  12. Bill 01/19/2012 at 4:31 pm #

Thanks Don. Wow I can’t believe how responsive you guys are!
I love the Social Networking idea.

  13. Bill 01/19/2012 at 3:35 pm #

    Hi Don,
Yes I use a white board to show my kids defensive movements in bunt situations, for example, or how outfielders and middle fielders should cover for each other or cover bases depending on which bases have runners on them. Stuff like that.

What would be really cool is to also be able to tap into a library of standard defensive situations, or to be able to collaborate with other coaches to build such a library and share knowledge with each other.

    • DoubleTake 01/19/2012 at 4:08 pm #

Bill, Sounds good. We’ll try to add baseball soon. I love the idea of sharing plays! We’ll add that too. Social Networking would be good to pull into it too. Thanks!

    • DoubleTake 01/25/2012 at 2:56 am #

Bill, did you see that we added Baseball in 1.0.6?

  14. Bill 01/19/2012 at 6:02 am #

Are there any plans to add baseball/softball?

    • DoubleTake 01/19/2012 at 12:51 pm #

Bill, would you make X/O plays in Baseball? We didn’t think this type of play solution was used in baseball? We could add it if there is a need.

  15. DoubleTake 01/19/2012 at 3:20 am #

Curling was submitted for release version 1.0.2 today. Look for it soon! Thanks for the feedback. Special shout of to Marc for his help with the design. You Curling fans out there give it a try and let us know if any changes are needed to make it better. I must admit, see the red and blue stones, instead of Xs and Os, is pretty cool in the replay animation!

I have loaded the new release and I am very impressed. I have told a bunch of people about this app. thanks for the quick responses and fixes

      • DoubleTake 01/25/2012 at 2:53 am #

Thank you James! We appreciate the feedback and referrals very much!

        Don

  16. DoubleTake 01/17/2012 at 1:25 am #

James, yes! Curling is actually on our list to add! Your vote is counted. Hope to add it very soon. Thanks!

  17. James 01/17/2012 at 12:59 am #

Is there any chance of getting a curling background. I have just downloaded this app and it looks fantastic. would be great for reviewing plays for team.

  18. DoubleTake 01/17/2012 at 12:29 am #

Thanks Chris. Yes, there will be an offline option early this year. We can add Field Hockey. Guess it isn’t like the Hockey rink we have now is it? Can you post a comment with a link to the rink layout for Field Hockey? We have about 5 different requests for added sports, so we’ll for sure add this one too.

    Appreciate the feedback.

  19. Chris Mills 01/17/2012 at 12:00 am #

hi, i’ve literally just downloaded the app and have already made numreous drills. My sport is Field Hockey and i’ve had to make do with the lacrosse and soccer versions – which isn’t a problem (but do feel free to make one!) However i do agree with a previous comment in the necessary use of wifi as most uses for this app would be on the pitch, at training. will there soon be a way to use this app without the need for wifi in so areas?

  20. Paul 01/16/2012 at 11:32 pm #

Great program, but unless you have access to WiFi on the field or can tether, the app will be of limited value. I look forward to a version where I can save locally on my PB and sync to a Web account.

    • DoubleTake 01/16/2012 at 11:46 pm #

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, we do plan to allow for offline use in future versions. In the meantime, a small MiFi would do the trick or tether. The initial goal was centralized, cloud storage, but you can expect sync to be available Q1 2012.

      Don
