Great trip visiting our client, Northeastern University in Boston this week! Exciting to see how they are using our LaunchPad (formerly FlickIT) software for student collaborative presentations. In their Digital Media Commons in the library building, they created a “FlickIT Room” which includes a 46 in touch table and a large 80 in touch screen on wall. Students can share presentations and flick media slides from table to wall, from tablets to wall, tablets to table, laptops to wall and table, as well as to remote students in their dorms, etc. They also see many other use cases around the university to take it beyond the “FlickIT room”. It is always cool to see how people in education are applying our technology in different ways… recruiting/sales presentations, distance learning, classroom instruction, wayfinding, interactive advertising, interactive kiosks, flicking to digital signage and TV’s, flicking to athletic gyms and hockey rink big screens, etc. Fun stuff!

The system is used to display news, information, events and provide a unique wayfinding solution to help students find the location of classrooms, events, and more! When the user walks up near the screen the Kinect for Windows sensor and camera places a transparent background video of the user onto a “You Are Here” location on the floorplan and provides animated directions from the screen to any of the locations in the University Center. To make the experience even more unique and fun, the users can wave their arms and hit falling stars around on the screen while standing on the floorplan The University Center Welcome Staff can also use DoubleTake’s FlickIT Technology to “flick” content from their tablet or laptop onto the large screen! Students can also “flick” content from the large screen to their tablet and take it with them!
